Luminescent Systems-Astronics
Nature of Work: Construct a new 82,000 SF Butler Manufacturing™ facility to accommodate offices, R&D, and manufacturing.
Location: Lebanon, New Hampshire
Luminescent Systems, Inc. (LSI) is a leading supplier of electroluminescent lamps, aviation lighting products and ruggedized keyboards, keypads, and data entry equipment for electronic systems. The Lebanon manufacturing facility’s products include emergency egress lighting systems, cockpit lighting, and electroluminescent lamps. Although the bulk of the work was completed during winter months, planning and construction of drainage systems prior to winter weather conditions helped alleviate possible scheduling delays.
LSI had a strong handle on internal program requirements. Trumbull-Nelson helped pull the pieces together as a member of the Team. In some respects, the process design work associated with integrating existing features into a brand-new facility helped spur innovation. The building included a tremendous amount of open space. It was important to maintain flexibility to move and service manufacturing equipment. Also important was allowing lighting to be maximized and efficient. The building included over 100 hood connectors and had Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) on all fans, integrated into a Direct Digital Control that optimized the energy needed to run the system. The process resulted in a significant energy rebate from Granite State Electric, and designation of the facility as an Energy Star Compliant Building.
