Gile Community Housing

Nature of Work: New construction of 120-unit, 11-building housing community

Location: Hanover, New Hampshire

Gile Hill is a LEED Gold Accredited, mixed income, environmentally sensitive housing development on a 21-acre site.

Of the 120 units at Gile Hill, 44 are privately owned condominiums, 37 market rate, and seven for moderate-income owners. The remaining 76 are apartments owned by the developer. Of those, 61 are affordable housing, and 15 are market rate.

Green building principles are found throughout the project, including: 

• siding on the buildings milled from the trees from the site, 
• extra insulation from the foundation to the roof, 
• ultra high efficiency heating equipment, 
• energy efficient windows, 
• compact building footprints, 
• the use of paint, carpet and other finishes that do not release toxic chemicals, and the use of Vermont slate, responsibly grown bamboo flooring, and other sustainable building materials
