Dunbar Free Library
Nature of Work: 1,167 SF additions and renovations to update and enlarge historic library building
Location: Grantham, New Hampshire
Built in 1901, the original Dunbar Free Library was without plumbing and insulation. Over 80 years later, it shared space in the Village School, until growth of both town and school necessitated its exit. The historic building was renovated to provide an entry, restroom, and librarian’s space.
Several years later, Trumbull-Nelson constructed a large second addition, which doubled the library’s size, mirroring the hip-roofed form of the original on the other side of the entry. The library size was increased from 1,522 to 2,689 square feet, and the parking lot was extended and paved.
