Nature of Work: Conversion of 1830s 4,600 SF single-family home into a 5-unit multi-family residence.

Location: Lebanon, New Hampshire

The original 1830s home is noted by the Lebanon, New Hampshire Historical Society’s Guide to Historic Landmarks as having been built by Wareham Morse, an early merchant of Lebanon, in the Transitional Federal Greek Revival style with Colonial Revival style details. Portions of the house may date to the late 1700s.

With great respect to the home’s history, the Owner aimed to preserve as much of its historic aspects while bringing the home into the 21st century, including ensuring that it met current Building Codes. Preservation efforts included careful work on the original windows, hardwood floors, multiple fireplaces, intricate moldings, and elegant staircase. Also important was making the building as energy efficient as possible, given the many opportunities for heat to escape through a building of that age.

The home was ultimately divided into five 1-bedroom, 1-bath apartment units, with full kitchens, storage, living and dining areas.
