Frank Sanborn:
A ‘Routine’ of Professionalism

W hen Trumbull-Nelson Superintendent Frank Sanborn signed on with the U.S. Navy in 1950, he anticipated both challenge and adventure. He may have expected no less from the construction industry when starting his career in 1954. One thing is for certain; 40 years of experience and field management make routine work of most Frank Sanborn building projects. To each, Frank brings a level of confidence that is based on the comfort of knowing his trade, inside and out.

Mr. Sanborn was born in Orford, NH, and like many others growing up within a rural environment, he honed his carpenter skills on smaller projects, often assisting local farmers with building tasks. Soon enough, duty called. After completing a four-year stint in the Navy, he returned home and secured employment with Morrison-Knudsen, one of the country’s larger heavy construction firms. At the time, the Company was managing the Moore Station Project, in Littleton, NH. Before long, Morrison-Knudsen tapped him for other heavy construction projects, including bridge work in Connecticut. In the early 60’s, opportunity called, and Frank answered by taking on a field management assignment with Gilbane Construction. His responsibilities for Gilbane would include work on the IBM Exhibit Building for the 1964 World’s Fair. New York looked nothing like Orford, New Hampshire, or Connecticut for that matter. But Mr. Sanborn’s supervisory strengths were readily apparent upon his successful completion of the work. Two years later, Mr. Sanborn learned of an available opening at Trumbull-Nelson. There, he interviewed with then Company president Don Smith, beginning a 32-year history with T-N. He did leave the Company briefly in 1974 and 1981, to handle various commercial construction work (including Air Traffic Control Tower Installations) in various parts of the country. Since 1983, he has continued to offer Trumbull-Nelson clients superior construction services throughout the Twin State region.

Mr. Sanborn’s list of recent projects for Trumbull-Nelson includes a 42,000 square foot warehouse/office facility constructed in Hanover, NH. Over the years, he has completed work on various metal building projects within the north country, including additions to the P&C Warehouse in White River Junction, and to the P.J. Noyes manufacturing facility, in Lancaster, NH. He suggests that one of his interesting projects was the Buskey Building renovation project, in Hanover, which required a new roof be placed over the existing roof of an older building, with the planned subsequent removal of the old roof. He also suggests that his work for Trumbull-Nelson on the Air Traffic Control Tower in West Lebanon was quite interesting.

Mr. Sanborn brings a level of confidence that is based on the comfort of knowing his trade, inside and out.

Over the years, Frank has been an active member of the Orford community. He was a member of the Orford Volunteer Fire Department for 34 years, and a Past Master of the F&AM Temple #10. He enjoys the company of his 3 children and 2 grandchildren, who all reside in New Hampshire. Outdoor recreation includes hiking on some of the Area’s many trails.

Trumbull-Nelson is proud of its association with Frank Sanborn. His invaluable experience, strong work ethic and pro-active approach make this industry professional’s work anything but routine!
